Privacy policy

The files you convert, edit or compress are processed entirely in your browser and are never uploaded to us or anyone else. We don't require an account, and we don't track your files or build a profile of you.

Media Tools's tools run using WebAssembly directly on your device. When you drop in a file, it is read into your browser's memory, processed there, and offered back to you as a download. At no point is the file transmitted to a server, stored, or accessible to us. Closing or refreshing the tab clears it from memory.

We aim to collect as little as possible. Specifically:

• Aggregate, anonymous usage statistics. We record privacy-preserving counts of page views — the page visited, a broad referrer category (e.g. "search" or "direct"), and a device category (mobile/desktop). We do not store your IP address, set a tracking cookie, or use any cross-site identifier for this.
• Messages you send us. If you use the contact form, we store the details you provide (such as your name, email and message) so we can reply. For abuse prevention we keep only a one-way, salted hash of the sending IP address — never the address itself.
• Local browser storage. We use your browser's local storage to remember preferences such as your light/dark theme choice and your cookie-consent decision. This stays on your device and is not sent to us. See our Cookie policy for details.

We may use third-party services from Google (such as Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager or Google Ads) to understand aggregate traffic and measure campaigns. When enabled, and where required, these load only after you consent via the cookie banner, and you can decline. These services may set their own cookies and process data under Google's Privacy Policy. They never receive the files you process, because those files never leave your browser.

We use the limited information above to operate and improve the site, understand which tools are useful, respond to your messages, and keep the service secure. We do not sell your personal information.

Aggregate statistics are kept only in a non-identifying, counted form. Contact messages are retained for as long as needed to handle your request and for reasonable record-keeping, after which they may be deleted.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information you've sent us, or to withdraw consent for analytics. To make a request, or ask any privacy question, contact us via the contact page.

Media Tools is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "last updated" date at the top of this page.
